After oral or maxillofacial surgery, it is very important to maintain an adequate diet for proper wound healing. Obviously, eating can be very complicated in cases of complete oral surgery and complex cases, because our mouth is weakened and sore. At Crooke and Laguna we distinguish ourselves by performing surgeries with a minimally invasive method, but even so, you should always take it easy during recovery.

In this post we give you some tips and recipes so you can focus only on resting after your surgery.

First of all, it is essential to eat everything and in a balanced way. Just after surgery, it is these nutrients that will make healing and scarring of the operated area possible. When you are in a recovery process, it is necessary to eat soft or liquid foods, in the form of purees and broths. These do not involve much effort when chewing and avoid the rubbing of hard things against the post-surgery wound.

What are therefore the most suitable foods?

It is best that you consider having a soft or liquid diet during the days following the intervention. We recommend that on the first and second days you eat foods rich in protein, such as eggs and even meat (as long as it is pureed). Cold foods will also help to reduce possible swelling. Things like Andalusian gazpacho, ice cream and fruit juices (but always without seeds!) are a perfect choice.

If we talk about essential foods to eat after surgery, the aforementioned fruit juice and milk must be present, as they are two of the most suitable liquids for us to have the nutrients and vitamins after our dental implant treatment.

From the third day, you can also choose to eat legumes, other vegetables and soups, always mashed, so that our mouth does not make the effort to chew them and swallow them easily.

Yogurts are a very good option to combine with your post-surgery diet, and since they are cold, they provide relief after a treatment with dental implants. They also have many probiotics that favor intestinal transit and protect us from possible alterations caused by post-surgery medication.

After about 4-5 days after your surgery with Crooke & Laguna, your mouth will be ready to eat again in a completely normal way, taking into account if the surgery area with dental implants has healed well.

Here are some recipes with easy and delicious ideas, so that after your implant treatment, you only have to worry about resting.

Sliced Bread Pizza

Ingredients

  • 1 packet of sliced bread
  • Fried tomato
  • Grated cheese for pizza
  • Oregano
  • Butter
  • Topings we like (ham, pineapple, bacon, tuna, sausages,…) but remember, easy to chew!

How is it made

  1. Preheat the oven to 220ºC (only at the bottom).
  2. Spread butter on the baking tray and place enough sliced bread on top to cover the whole tray.
  3. Add cold tomato and spread it over the entire surface with a spoon.
  4. Spread the grated cheese and sprinkle with oregano.
  5. Chop up the ingredients we have chosen for our pizza and spread them out.
  6. Put in the oven on the lowest setting and bake for 12-15 minutes, making sure it does not burn.
  7. You can gratinate a little at the end.

Ajoblanco de coco

Coconut Ajoblanco

Ingredients

  • 100 gr. peeled almonds
  • 2 cloves of garlic
  • 50 gr. white bread crumbs
  • 400 cc. coconut milk (can be canned)
  • 50 cc. olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons of white wine vinegar
  • half teaspoon salt
  • 150-200 cc. cold water

How is it made:

  1. Soak the bread.
  2. Once soaked and drained, mix it with the garlic and the peeled almonds, the oil, the vinegar, the salt and the coconut milk.
  3. It is crushed with the mixer until it is very fine, adding a little water according to the desired thickness (about 150-200 cc. of water).
  4. Chill until serving time.

Green apple, avocado and mint lime cold cream

Ingredients

  • 2 ripe avocados
  • 1 green apple (Granny Smith)
  • 1 lime
  • 1 Greek yoghurt
  • 250g fresh mint leaves
  • 25 Water
  • 500 ml Salt
  • Ground black pepper

How is it made

  1. Cut the avocados in half
  2. Remove the stone, scoop out the flesh with a spoon and place in an electric blender.
  3. Peel the apple, remove the core and pips and cut into small pieces.
  4. Grate half the lime and squeeze the juice from the whole lime.
  5. Put the apple, the lime zest and the juice of the lime into the blender, together with the avocado.
  6. Finally, wash the mint leaves well and dry them on absorbent paper.
  7. Add them to the blender jug along with the yoghurt and water. Season with salt and pepper and blend at maximum speed until it is thick but homogeneous.

Puré de calabaza Bio

Pumpkin puree with apple and chicken

Ingredients

  • 500 g of pumpkin
  • 250 gr chicken
  • 1 onion
  • 1 medium apple
  • Meat stock or water
  • Oil (3 or 4 tablespoons) and salt

How is it made

  1. Put the oil in a saucepan and fry the peeled onion, cut into very fine strips. When it is transparent, add the chicken, also cut into small pieces. Sauté it.
  2. Add the pumpkin cut into pieces and add the stock or water until it covers all the ingredients.
  3. Leave to cook for 15 minutes until everything is tender.
  4. Add the peeled and chopped apple and cook for a further 5 minutes.
  5. Let it cool a little before putting it in the blender and blending it.
  6. Serve with a few drops of olive oil on top.

Compota de frutas

Apple and banana compote

Ingredients

  • 1 medium apple
  • 1 ripe banana
  • 1 mint leaf

How is it made

  1. In a pot of boiling water, cook the diced and peeled apple for about 15 minutes.
  2. In a separate bowl, mash the peeled banana to a puree.
  3. Then add the apple and mash with a fork. Mix everything very well until you get a homogeneous paste.
  4. Serve it in a bowl and add some mint leaves or a dash of honey on top.

Crema de melón

Spicy Melon Sour Cream

Ingredients

  • 1 yellow melon
  • 1 lemon
  • 1 plain yoghurt
  • 1 pot of low-fat cream
  • A few drops of Tabasco and salt

How is it made

  1. Peel the melon and remove the seeds.
  2. Cut into pieces and place in a bowl with the lemon juice, yoghurt and cream.
  3. Beat well with a blender.
  4. Add the salt and beat well again.
  5. Chill for at least 1 hour.
  6. Serve in individual bowls, garnished with a few drops of Tabasco, a drizzle of olive oil and some mint leaves.
