Orthodontics con Braces
Convencional Braces
Conventional brackets or metal brackets are the most common type, these brackets are strong and secure. They come in various sizes, such as the “mini” size, which are smaller than traditional metal brackets. It is the orthodontics that is normally used in children and adolescents, since they are usually less responsible to fulfill the necessary hours with an invisible aligner.
It is also the orthodontic indicated in some cases where the anchorage needed to move the teeth is high, for example to traction canines included in the palate.
Aesthetic braces
Ceramic braces
We work with ceramic brackets with metallic grooves to avoid the friction produced by conventional brackets, thus shortening the treatment time of conventional ceramic brackets.
Sapphire braces
Sapphire brackets are the latest generation of esthetic brackets. Their main advantage is that they are made of monocrystalline ceramic, so they provide optimal esthetics and are very resistant to fracture.
Invisible orthodontics
Invisible orthodontics consists of a series of removable and invisible aligners custom-made for each patient with a transparent plastic material. With this system, the teeth move towards the desired position progressively. Each aligner is worn for 10-15 days to perform the expected movements, taking into account that they should be used about 22 hours a day, that is, we will only remove them to eat.
For this treatment we apply the latest 3D technology on the market through specialized software. We work with the leaders in the invisible orthodontics sector.
Comfortable
Invisible orthodontics allows you to speak comfortably, without scrapes or wounds.
Discreet
Being transparent no one will notice that you are wearing them, without feeling the need to hide your smile.
Hygienic
Being removable allows a complete cleaning of your mouth, without running the risk of retaining food.
Practical
Meal time will not be a torture, unlike braces, you can remove the aligners to eat, drink and brush your teeth.
Digitalized invisible orthodontics
With the incorporation of the intraoral scanner for capturing images, at Crooke & Laguna we have achieved a more comfortable, reliable and effective way of taking records of a patient’s mouth to perform the study prior to orthodontic treatment to align their teeth. This methodology, in addition to being more comfortable for the patient, allows us to study the case on the computer and obtain a preview of the final results, thus confirming that we will meet the patient’s expectations.
Nowadays, invisible orthodontics can solve most cases of dental crowding or malocclusion.
Frequently asked questions about invisible orthodontics
What is invisible orthodontics?
It is a transparent, comfortable and removable orthodontic treatment. After a study of models, photographs and X-rays, a virtual treatment plan is made, which can be shown to the patient to have a preview of the final result. Depending on the movements to be made, a successive series of splints or aligners are made to measure for each patient’s teeth, which are replaced every 2 weeks. Depending on the case, a greater or lesser number of aligners will be needed, varying the cost of treatment accordingly.
These aligners are usually very comfortable and do not interfere with daily life, they need a minimum of 20-22 hours a day of use, they should only be removed to eat. The advantage is that aesthetically they are almost invisible, and because they are remissible, tooth brushing is easier than with conventional brackets.
How does it work?
Once the first visit has been made and the possibility of treatment with invisible aligners has been assessed, diagnostic records will be taken: measurements or scanning of the mouth, photographs and X-rays. This will generate a virtual three-dimensional model with which a treatment plan will be drawn up, which must be approved by the orthodontist and which the patient will then be able to view to show his or her agreement before requesting the splints or aligners.
When this treatment plan is accepted, the fabrication of the splints begins, which will arrive numbered from beginning to end, and will be installed by the orthodontist and changed every two weeks. In this way, the necessary dental movements will be made gradually for the correction of the smile, straightening the teeth until the final correction.
Is it suitable for all patients?
Yes, in general, practically all malocclusions can be treated with invisible aligners, although there are 2 basic limitations: the lack of anchorage (i.e. there are few remaining teeth and additional anchorage with implants or micro-screws is needed), and the lack of collaboration from the patient, since being a removable system, the patient must be responsible and wear it the maximum number of hours per day.
How long does the treatment last?
The duration depends on each patient and the type of malocclusion, some treatments can last as little as 6 months and some a little more complex between 15 and 20 months.
Is there an age limit for this treatment?
There is no age limit for this type of treatment, although we recommend this treatment for adults due to the importance of compliance in its use, which is usually more complicated in children or adolescents.
What are its main benefits?
Invisible aligners are clear. No one will notice that you are wearing these virtually invisible aligners, making Invisalign fit seamlessly into your lifestyle and your daily relationship with others.
Invisible aligners are removable. Unlike fixed metal braces, you enjoy the flexibility to eat and drink what you want during treatment by simply removing the aligners. You can also remove the aligners to brush and floss your teeth as you normally would to prevent halitosis and maintain proper oral hygiene.
Unlike traditional fixed braces, there are no metal brackets or wires. This means that, in most cases, you have to spend less time in the office having adjustments made as needed during treatment.
Finally, invisible aligners allow you to see your virtual results and treatment plan before you even begin treatment, so you can see what your teeth are expected to look like by the time you finish treatment.
Is it painful?
Some people may feel a little temporary discomfort during the first few days at the beginning of each new stage of treatment when putting on a new aligner. This is normal and is usually described as a feeling of pressure. It is a sign that the aligners are working well, gradually moving your teeth and helping you achieve the desired end result. This discomfort usually disappears within a couple of days.
Is the use of retainers important?
The use of retainers after orthodontic treatments is an important phase, as they maintain the stability of the teeth in the new position. If you want your teeth to remain in the ideal position, it is best to wear a retainer every night indefinitely, as the periodontal ligament has a memory and teeth tend to return to their initial position.
What is the best way to clean them?
The best way to clean aligners is by brushing and rinsing them in warm water or by using special cleaning crystals or cleaning tablets. To maintain proper hygiene it is important to brush your teeth after every meal and before putting the aligners back in.
When is it best to perform conventional orthodontics?
It would be indicated in patients where we need a strong anchorage for dental movement (for example when there are teeth included that need to be removed from the arch), or when we know the patient will not be responsible for wearing the aligners 22 hours a day, in which case it is better to have something fixed that does not depend on the patient’s compliance.
